Vacancy for Councillor

11th January 2012: The Electoral Officer for East Devon District Council has advised that a casual vacancy has arisen on Uplyme Parish Council, and may now be filled by co-option.

Meeting times

At the June 2011 meeting, the Council resolved to start meetings at 7:15pm, then adjourn them to hear public questions. This will make little difference in practice, but saves having to hold up meetings till 7:30 if no-one wishes to speak in the public forum.

Members' Allowances paid for year 2010/2011

Under the Council's Members' Allowances Scheme for 2010-11 made in accordance with the powers contained in the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003, the Council paid the sums stated to the Members named below.

The sums include Parish Basic Allowances but do not include travel expenses and reimbursable items bought on behalf of the Council, which fall outside the scope of the Scheme (and are published in the Council's minutes):

  • Councillor Jonathan Clarke-Irons: £19.32

Adoption of Policy

At its meeting on 10th November 2010, the Council adopted an allowances and expenses policy. You can download the official notice here as a PDF file.

Be heard at Council meetings

The Council has now instituted open sessions both before (at 7:15pm) and after meetings, so if you want to speak on a topic coming up on the agenda, you can put your views before it is discussed! Please make use of this opportunity to be heard at Council meetings.

Are you looking for affordable housing in Uplyme?

As you may know, 8 affordable houses will be built in Uplyme near the Village Hall. If you wish to be considered for these, it is essential that you register with Devon Home Choice, either by calling the EDDC Housing Team on 01395 517469, or at the web site www.devonhomechoice.com. These houses will be let to people with local connections in preference to others, so make sure you are on the list!

Items for regular Council meetings agenda

The Agenda for each monthly meeting is normally set at least a week in advance, to allow official notices to be posted in good time. If you have an item that you would like to be considered for the agenda, you must give written notice to the Clerk or Chairman at least 14 days in advance of the meeting at which the item is to be considered. It is neither possible, nor legal, to add last-minute items to the agenda if a Council decision needs to be taken as a consequence, so late notifications will only be considered for the subsequent meeting.

You can of course mention items to the Councillors and ask them to contact the Clerk, but since they are all busy people with other commitments, some away from the Parish, it may be better to ensure that the Clerk is notified.

You can bring up items for consideration at a future meeting in person, by attending the open forum that precedes and follows each meeting.

If you want to be emailed with the agenda for the next meeting (normally at the end of the preceding week), please contact the Clerk who will add you to the distribution list. You can also see the agenda on the official Parish noticeboard (side of filling station) at about the same time.
