Community support and funding

Are you a representative of a local community organisation or charity? If so, the Community Council of Devon is organising a major survey of the voluntary sector. The link to this survey is below - it would be really useful if you could forward it to the contacts for any other voluntary groups you know of. Take the survey.

Or are you a local business, craftsman or artist looking for funding for marketing, new products, or a special project? If so, Making it Local has almost £1/4M in funds! There is a funding workshop to help you apply on Wednesday 14th July, 10am - 12 noon at Axminster church rooms. For more information about the programme, see www.makingitlocal.org.

Or are you a young person looking to add or improve facilities in East Devon? You can apply for a grant to be spent on activities and youth facilities that will benefit youngsters between the ages of 13 and 19 who live in Devon. These should be related to a local need and must benefit groups of young people rather than individuals. You can download an application form (PDF file) or call Devon Youth Service on 01392 380262.

Or do you work with the police in a community role? Devon & Cornwall Police Authority has joined forces with Devon Community Foundation to help it work even more closely with local communities. Proceeds of the Police Property Fund (money raised from selling goods recovered by the Police which can't be returned to their owners) will be used to make small grants to local community groups helping the Police to tackle local community issues like making local areas safer and reducing anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime. Any groups interested in applying for a grant should visit the website www.devoncf.com

May 17th The parish lengthsman spent a week in Uplyme working on gullies, ditches and verges, but we didn't have prior notice. He will be visiting again on 17th August, so if you have any items for his attention, please let the Clerk know in good time.

12th May. After 10 years as Chairman and many more on the Council, Beryl Denham has stood down as Chairman. Brian Mason, another long-standing Councillor, was elected in her place.

21st April. Despite a really good turn-out of local organisations eager to meet parishioners, there was a disappointingly small attendance at the annual parish meeting. You missed a chance to find out what the Council does, see the Uplyme Morris in action, enjoy some free tea and coffee, and a chat!

17th March - TRIP-CTA newsletter published. Funding cuts mean that donations and voluntary drivers are more essential than ever. If you can help, please contact Neil Hurlock, tel. 01404 46529. This charity helps people to attend medical appointments within Lyme or elsewhere. Find out more on their web site.

March 11th: vehicles have been damaged by overgrown roadside hedges in the parish, and landowners are reminded of their statutory duty to keep them cut back and safe for road users.

1st February - EDDC’s Planning Service has introduced a scale of charges for pre-application advice. The Service has produced a charter setting out the scale of charges, outlining what the Council will expect to receive as part of any pre-application enquiry, and listing what customers can expect of the planning service.

October 1st - a Dog Control order came into force on the King George V playing field. There is a map on the EDDC web site showing what is allowed where. Notices should be appearing some time in late October or early November. [Update: now forecast by the end of February!]
