22nd March (OSM) and 24th March (Combe St Nicholas) - free pre-application funding workshops for small businesses and community groups in the East Devon AONB. See www.makingitlocal.org for full details.

15th March - The Everyone's Tomorrow conference and information fair in Exeter is organised by the Senior Council for Devon, the county-wide forum for people aged 50 and over. Everyone's Tomorrow will take place on Thursday 11 March 2010 starting at 10am at the Matford Centre, Matford Park Road, Exeter, EX2 8FD. It is a free event that is open to members of the public aged 50-plus, and it is still not too late to place a booking for a free lunch. 25th February at Axminster Guildhall, 7:30 pm. Police Authority Liaison meeting - have your say about any police matters.

13-15th February - Go wet and wild this winter! During the day there will be bird watching from the Colyford Common hide and around Black Hole Marsh; guided walks and possibly otter spotting. Seaton Tramway offer approximately half-priced trams from Seaton to a temporary halt at Black Hole Marsh. The activities run from 1pm until 4pm on Saturday 13 February and from 10am until 4pm on both Sunday 14 February and Monday 15 February. 1st February - EDDC’s Planning Service has introduced a scale of charges for pre-application advice. The Service has produced a charter setting out the scale of charges, outlining what the Council will expect to receive as part of any pre-application enquiry, and listing what customers can expect of the planning service.

February - the raised tablet outside the Village Hall, to allow for safer crossing from school etc., is scheduled for installation during the spring half term.

11th January A consultation on Devon school admission and transport arrangements is online until 1 March 2010. All parents and community groups are invited to review and comment on the proposed admission arrangements for Devon schools. This is a new opportunity for parents, arising from a revision of the Code of Practice for Schools Admissions 2009. Their views are welcomed and may contribute to decisions on how Devon and Devon schools will manage access for children.

7th January: please do not take grit from the yellow bins for your own personal use. This is for spreading on the roads, not your front path! Please buy your own salt: you can get bags of coarse salt for water softeners at reasonable prices.

19th November - Neighbourhood Assessment newsletter summarising the results now on the web site. You can download a copy (PDF file) from this web site.

26th October - the new planning system at EDDC is now operational. The search is very much better to use, and you can ask to keep track of a particular application by email.

October 1st - a Dog Control order came into force on the King George V playing field. There is a map on the EDDC web site showing what is allowed where. Notices should be appearing some time in late October or early November. [Update: now forecast by the end of February!]

8th July Terry Sweeney attended the annual forum of the East Devon AONB on the Council's behalf, and reported at the Council meeting. A copy of his report is here on the web site (PDF file).

1st July - TRIP-CTA urgently needs new voluntary car drivers to cover the Lyme area as several of its current drivers have left. If you can help, please contact Neil Hurlock, tel. 01404 46529. This charity has already helped over 100 people to attend appointments within the town or elsewhere this year. Find out more on their web site.
