Councillor Andrew Turner is appealing for public-spirited volunteers to be trained to join the Uplyme Parish Council’s emergency team. The team provides a gritting service on minor roads in frosty or snowy weather, and gives practical help with sandbags, digging out drains, directing traffic etc. during any episodes of flooding, as residents who were affected in the July 2012 flood will perhaps remember.
If you can give up an hour or two a month to help with the gritting, or …would like to be on call in case of floods, you will be doing a really valuable service for the parish, your friends and neighbours. Please come to an information and training evening at the Village Hall between 7 and 8pm this Thursday 26th November to find out more and perhaps put your name down.
If you are unable to attend, please email or call the Clerk with your contact details and Cllr Turner will arrange further training sessions.
Note: the Council expects to do more and more self-help as the cuts to the District and County Councils’ budgets start to bite. This is one of the initiatives it is taking to help keep parishioners are kept safe.
